Etching, ed. 58/150, 450 x 350 mm
Kurt Peiser (1887-1962) was an Antwerp painter and graphic artist of German origin with great social and humanitarian commitment. His oeuvre focuses mainly on life and suffering in the Antwerp port area.
The harsh reality of a sailor's wife is poignantly depicted in this beautiful etching. The ship departs, leaving the young mother with her child. Will her husband ever return and will she be able to survive with her family? This is the harsh reality Peiser chooses to adress in a period in which carefree bourgeois art was highly prized.
A beautifully executed etching with numerous shades of gray. In the monumental mother figure we discern a certain Art Nouveau silouette.
In good and original condition, in original 1920s frame, 56 x 71 cm
