Born into a merchant family, in the early 1850s Tsukioka Yoshitoshi became a student of Utagawa Kuniyoshi's and initially designed beautiful women and actors in the Utagawa-style tradition. In 1858, he set up his own studio and started to make his name as a designer of historical prints which often included elements of considerable violence.
Condition: some stains to the paper, overall in good condition.
